Steel frame is the skeleton frame of a building and is composed of vertical steel columns and horizontal I-beams. These are constructed in a rectangular grid supporting the floors, walls and roofs which are all attached to the frame.
The use of steel frames in the construction industry has been most preferred by many because of its advantages. Steel has been found to be versatile, economical, durable, flexible, and stylish.
Steel frame structures are often used in high rise buildings, industrial buildings, warehouses, residential buildings, and temporary structures which are quick to set up and remove.
Steel frame structures however, need to be planned in its design so the construction of the building will be with such precision and accuracy otherwise, the structure will be at high risk from disastrous events and even render itself not functional.
It is important therefore, that steel frame structures be drafted well for accuracy of the design. Structural drafting is the plan or set of plans of how to build a house, building, and other structures.
Steel frame drafting can be an exacting and demanding career. It is important that drafters possess some of these qualities. Reliable. Good drafters report to work regularly , always punctual, and are ready to accomplish the task at hand. Absences do not only stress others in the drafting team but delays the work itself.
Focus. Drafters must be able to concentrate and focus on the work. This is important because there are times they are required to sit for long hours in front of the computer solving technical design problems.
Neat. Particularly with their drawings, drafters must be able to create clear and vivid drawings with the details easy to read. If the draft is difficult or not easy to read for the builders, then the draft is useless.
Imaginative. Drafters must be able to visualize the structure that is to be built. They must be able to see in their minds and illustrate in their drawings how the component parts of a steel frame will fit and fasten together to support the structure.
Mathematical Ability. Drafters work with numbers in doing their designs. They must at least be competent in mathematics as well as have an understanding of algebra and trigonometry.
Highly skilled. Drafters should master the technical skills in preparing designs and details of the structure to be built by means of computer-aided drafting and other drafting softwares.
So, steel frames that are drafted by experts who possess these characteristics would certainly be an excellent plan.
