LONG AGO, IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY...
Oops, wrong story...
John Holmes, proprietor of Kissimmee River Depot, got his start in reenacting in 1979 at Fort McAllister, Georgia's "Winter Muster". Over the years, he rose in rank from private to captain and unit commander. He took part in all of the major "125th Anniversary" events as a company officer or company commander in the "Florida Division", and was an extra in the TV miniseries "North and South" and the film "Glory". He is the event battle coordinator for the "Narcoossee" event that his SCV camp sponsors. He is still an 8th Grade History teacher at Neptune Middle School in Kissimmee and has taught since 1975.
He has been a sutler since 1985, first as a dealer for C&D Jarnagin Company, and independent since 1990. His sutler tent was a regular feature at reenactments in the southeast until 2001 when his wife died from leukemia. Since then, it has been difficult to get away to events, but the sutlery has continued by mail order and "visits". Now it's time to get into the "computer age".
